North Georgia is getting their White Christmas early this year.
According to the National Weather Service reports, snow flurries will accumulate until Friday night from about 1 to 3 inches with lows around 31 degrees F. The first reports of snow came out of the North Georgia mountains and continued to fall in the metro Atlanta area on Friday.
For Saturday, snow is likely and snowfall will occur before 10am. The rest of the day will become mostly sunny, with a high near 40. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Accumulations of snow could be up to 2 inches from Carrollton in west Georgia and northeast to the mountains, with 3 to 4 inches possible in the higher elevations.
The weather service warns that black ice is possible on roads Saturday morning with low temperatures of 20 to the lower 30s.
Highs are expected to reach the 40s by Saturday afternoon with mostly sunny skies.
